For a class I had the task to go find a philosophical quote that I like, luckily this is very simple because there are so many great quotes in the world. It was so simple I spent 10 minutes sitting stupidly in front of my computer not doing anything. There are a lot of great quotes and most of them would have worked perfectly for the assignment I had been given. Eventually I got my act together and chose my favorite quote from Bruce Lee, considering that this took ten minutes if I had done the obvious I would have saved myself a lot of time. The quote itself is not that important, what is important is that to find some details on Bruce Lee's famous movies. This being the internet I got slightly side tracked from the overload of awesome Bruce Lee information. I created some tabs for interesting parts of his wiki, and opened up his website. Something about the website initially bothered me, maybe the style, the font or question graphic design that made Bruce Lee look like his face had a coffee stain. At this point I went back and finished my original assignment, proving that i have some amount of focus. After writing down a quote you were supposed to describe it and its significance to you, which I did although I admittedly wrote more than I had to. This was my favorite quote after all. Then I had to read and comment on someone else's quote, a simple enough task. With satisfaction of a job complete I took a moment to step back from my laptop, until the tabs of Bruce Lee I had left open caught my eye, and I was back to surfing the web. While the wikipedia (Auto Correct Tells Me That wikipedia Is Spelled Wrong, mexico isn't though, canada is) article has a good amount of information it just doesn't have as much visual appeal as the website.
I mean the website flaunts two unfortunate photos of the man himself, I repeat myself, that face has a coffee stain. Yet these graphics do accomplish their goal, as they did grab my attention. The font is nice. The logo is nice enough, and the formatting of content is nice and organized. With a quick glance over the a few things became apparent, clearly Bruce Lee is awesome, clearly this man is so awesome that he someone made BRUCE LEE SKATE BOARDS! This may seem a little odd to some of you familiar with his work but I am sure that this really expresses the open minded adventurous spirit that Bruce himself had. After a quick glance at the legacy section of the site it was then onto the store, and wow there is a lot of different merchandise. I fully appreciate the novelty of Bruce Lee lamps, the wooden book holders, the sun glasses and the Bruce tea. There are all the inspirational videos, of the inspiring things that he said "be like water", "all the heavenly glory", "walk on". There are action figures, and even a full costume from way of the Dragon. All of this inspiration from one mans life. Personally my favorite is a shirt of Bruce Lee behind a DJ booth, its just such a new spin on the character of Bruce Lee. It is exciting to see a persons personality expressed in so many different and diverse ways. If I were to die I would if people would remember me in a similar way, if I could become more famous in death? Maybe its a good thing that Lee died, the shirts began to be made after his death right?
